David Bowie - Glass Spider (Special Edition) 2CD+DVD PAL Reg 2
Released 25/06/07
In 1987 Bowie took his most spectacular & extravagant tour since Diamond Dogs on the road to the massive stadiums of the world. He promised fans an event "overflowing with make-up, costumes and theatrical sets", and his Glass Spider tour didn't disappoint. The show opened in Rotterdam in May and began with 4 dancers falling from the belly of a 50ft high spider complete with illuminated, flashing legs that straddled the stage. The whole event was what Bowie described as "ultra theatrical" with "fragments of film, projected images" and "a slight narrative form... it's almost what I believe a modern musical should look like".
Musically the concert was a mix of tracks from his then current album 'Never Let Me Down' and previous hits.

Early in 1978 David Bowie began rehearsals for what was to be his biggest tour so far including visits to the US, Canada, Europe, Japan and Australia.
The majority of the show was to be comprised primarily from the 'Low' & '"Heroes"' albums. However, Bowie surprised his fans with the inclusion of a selection of tracks from the 'Ziggy Stardust' album re-arranged to reflect his new futuristic synthesizer sound.
When asked to take charge of recording and mixing Tony Visconti decided to record it as if it was a studio album. His attention to detail was astounding. He had the band close miked for maximum separation between their sounds to ensure more control during mixing, he wanted the audience to sound big and real, and he wanted the natural reverb in the concert halls to be part of the sound on the record. He used four microphones for the audience instead of the usual two, with the two extras placed in front of the first row and against the back wall of the venue. Quadraphonic recording was still viable in the late seventies and he wanted to cover this possibility. Now, years later, surround sound enables us to bring this back to life and can be appreciated in full on the DVDA.
In 1978 a drastic decision was made at the time to put the album in a very different running order to the live performance. The tracks were assembled in a (sort of) chronological order. However, it has been decided to restore the original order of the concert. This present running order now includes two previously unreleased tracks, 'Stay' and 'Be My Wife'.

Tony Visconti on the DVDA surround mix:
"It was a thrill for me to remix this concert in surround sound. I took some liberties with the instrument placing. I don't like live surround mixes with the band in front of you and the audience behind you. I want to be 'involved' with the music, as I think you'd like to be. So I've placed Dennis Davis on drums spread across all the speakers, along with George Murray in the center on bass (with some subwoofer help for the kick drums and the bass). Carlos Alomar's stereo guitar is spread between the front speakers (he was a pioneer of this sound). Sean Mayes on keyboards is left/front, and a little to the left side center, playing piano mostly and some extra keyboards. Simon House on electric violin has his own domain in the left/rear. So does Roger Powell on keyboards, but occupying the right/rear speaker. Adrian Belew's milieu is right/front. The backing singers, which were also Carlos, George and Adrian, are spread across the front speakers. David is front/middle. I've tried to place him in your lap, something you can't have in a concert hall! When he plays the Chamberlain keyboard he appears behind you. Although most of the reverb is the natural hall, I've added some special effects that were in the front of the house mix at the time. I've also used the signature harmonized snare drum effect for the Low and "Heroes" songs."

Recorded in July 1974 at the Tower Theatre, Philadelphia 'David Live' is an enthralling album of the extraordinary 1974 Diamond Dogs tour. Bowie started the tour as a glam rock king but as the tour progressed he started to make a changeover to a new sound and a new look - Philly Soul. Consequently, the-album captures Bowie in transition, as he moves from glam-rock to plastic soul.
Many of the familiar songs were reworked in unusual & intriguing ways; 'All The Young Dudes' & 'The Jean Genie' are the subject of a wonderful cabaret style reworking, 'The Width Of A Circle' rework is fascinating and 'Rock 'n' Roll Suicide' reworked as a 'Vegas torch song' is not to be missed - absolutely brilliant.
On original release the album went top 10 on both sides of the Atlantic and it remains an absorbing document of the crossover period between Diamond Dogs and Young Americans.
With a brand new mix by the original producer Tony Visconti, this double CD features for the very first time the complete gig in correct running order with comprehensive sleevenotes by Visconti and a chronology by Kevin Cann.
David Live was culled from performances on the 8th, 9th, 10th 11th and 12th of July 1974 at the Tower Theater, Philadelphia. No studio overdubs or re-recordings of voices, instruments or audience have been added with the exception of several backing vocals due to a loss of theatre mike contact.

With his best-selling A Reality Tour DVD high in the charts, Universal Catalogue are delighted to revisit the other end of David Bowie's spectrum by making available on DVD for the first time ever his 1969 movie, Love You Till Tuesday.
Back then, Bowie was an earnest mime star under the tutelage of Kenneth Pitt. Pitt financed Love You Till Tuesday as a television film, but it was never shown on a major network.
The performance includes including the single versions of 'Love Till Tuesday' 'Rubber Band' and 'When I Live My Dream', and importantly, it contains the previously unreleased original version of 'Space Oddity' (with Buzz cohort John Hutchinson joining in on vocals), 'Ching-A-Ling', 'Sell Me A Coat' (featuring background vocals from his then-girlfriend Hermione Farthingale and Hutchinson) and 'When I'm Five'.
Not merely a curio for the aficionado, but a fascinating document that shows even with all the mime and period detail, Bowie's trademark creativity and poise shines through. And it's got 'Let Me Sleep Beside You' on it - one of his very greatest records.

David Bowie - Bowie At The Beeb 2CD
Released 25/10/04
The History:
In December 1967 David Bowie entered the BBC studios for the first time, like many of his contemporaries of the time, to record a session for BBC radio. Between '67 and '72, David recorded 12 sessions for BBC radio largely for promotional purposes. When in mid-1972 he achieved stardom, the need to do these radio performances had disappeared and he didn't return to until 1991 when he recorded a Tin Machine session.
In the 70's and 80's tracks from arbitrary sessions were fragmentarily released on tapes and bootlegs, creating a lot of confusion about dates of recording and broadcast. Some sessions such as The Sunday Show have been bootlegged in very poor quality and without the audience applause and in between chat. Not only does this release contain songs rarely captured live, but it also contains David's first live performance with guitarist Mick Ronson (David having met Mick only 2 days previous).
Another session to be made available is David's session with the Tony Visconti Trio. Clearly pivotal in David's progression to recording his first album in 1969 this session is a holy grail for fans.
The Album:
Featuring the best of the '68-'72 BBC radio sessions, personally chosen by David, the album marks the first official release of some of David's most important broadcast recordings.
The recordings will be released on double CD. The packaging will feature track by track/session details finally laying to rest the confusion surrounding the sessions, along with sleeve notes from Radio producers Bernie Andrews and Jeff Griffin who, between them, were responsible for producing 7 of the sessions. Jeff and Bernie will also be supplying personal artefacts/memorabilia from the time for inclusion in the 20 page full colour booklet.
The cover art for the album is a truly original piece of work by Guy Peellaert previously responsible for the artwork to David's seminal Diamond Dogs album. Creating a moment in history by reworking, in his super real style, a Mick Rock photograph of David, and a Sarah McCormack photograph of BBC Maida Vale Studio 3, Guy has produced a truly classic Bowie album sleeve. (NB. Sarah McCormack is the wife of Geoff (Warren Peace) McCormack who sings the third verse of the John Peel Sunday Show track "It Ain't Easy")
Although the recordings themselves are mainly in mono, they have been mastered to the highest possible sound quality and resolution.

David Bowie - Diamond Dogs 30th Anniversary (Ltd Ed) 2CD
Released 07/06/04
David Bowie has never been as menacing or menaced as he sounds on 'Diamond Dogs'. This eerie vision of a futuristic society is Bowie's interpretation of George Orwell's novel '1984' which offered a nihilistic view of the future. Originally Bowie wanted to call the album '1984' but decided upon 'Diamond Dogs' when Orwell's widow refused to give permission, however Bowie still used the year as a title for one of the tracks.
The album begins with the haunting, 'Future Legend' a spoken word piece which sets the scene for Bowie's paranoid visions. It ends with 'Chant of the Ever Circling Skeletal Family' a track about the breakdown of the nuclear family which is at the heart of all of this future society's problems. In between we have the fantastic 'Rebel Rebel' (released as a single, it reached no. 5 in the UK charts), the bisexual torch song 'Sweet Thing' and the self explanatory 'We Are All Dead'.
The album was recorded with the tight level of musician ship expected from Bowie.
It's one of the darkest album's of his career.
"This ain't Rock and Roll, this is genocide". David Bowie
This is a 2 CD 30th Anniversary Edition, of Bowie's 1974 classic 'Diamond Dogs'. As with the other recent and successful 30th Anniversary editions this will be available for a limited period - until December 31st. The packaging remains a feature of the Bowie re-issues and 'Diamond Dogs' will be no exception with a gatefold replica minisleeve of the original album, a booklet featuring sleeve notes by David Buckley, both housed in a slip case.
